A Vault box, more commonly referred to as “Storage” by players, is the storage service offered by the Xunlai Guild. To access your Vault box, each character (excluding PvP characters) must first pay a one-time fee of 50 Gold to any Xunlai Agent. PvP characters have access as long as the access fee has been paid at least once.

Although it would appear that each character is opening a separate account, the storage inventory space is actually shared with all characters of the same account. This allows the transfer of items and gold amongst all of a player's characters.

The Vault box can be accessed by talking to a Xunlai Agent or interacting with a Xunlai Chest. There is no way to access the Vault box in pre-searing Ascalon in the Prophecies campaign.

[edit] Funds

The Vault box can be used to store in-game money (gold and platinum), much like a bank, but without the interest. The maximum amount that can be deposited is 1,000Platinum (i.e. 1 million Gold). A character's inventory can hold a maximum of 100Platinum.

The total amount of gold and platinum currently in the Vault box is shown at the top of the window. Right below it are the buttons used to deposit and withdraw money. Any character may deposit and withdraw money.

[edit] Items

The Vault box has two to a maximum of eight tabs of storage space. Two tabs of storage space are always available. Up to two additional tabs are added when more campaigns or expansions are added to the account. For example, adding 1 campaign or expansion would give you a total of 3 tabs of storage. Adding 2 campaigns or expansions would give you a total of 4 tabs of storage. Adding 3 or more campaigns or expansions will still only give you a total of 4 tabs of storage.

You may purchase up to four additional tabs of storage through the Guild Wars In-Game Store or NCsoft Store.

During the 4th anniversary celebration update, a limited promotional offer running from April 23, 2009 through May 31, 2009, was introduced, Players could receive a free storage tab through the NCsoft Store. This storage tab has the icon of a gift box and does not count toward the maximum purchased limit of four, or as a campaign-added storage tab. It is located below the roman numeral four (IV) tab in the Xunlai Storage panel, and when moused over has the label of "4th Anniversary Storage." The deadline for this promotional offer was later extended to June 30th, 2009.

Each tab has space for 20 items or item stacks, much like a character's backpack.

Items that cannot be stacked (such as most weapons and runes) will take up 1 item slot per item stored. Items that can be stacked (such as dyes and crafting materials) take up only one item slot, and can be stacked up to a maximum of 250 items. To split a stack, hold down the [Shift] key before you drag-and-drop the stack.

[edit] Materials

The storage for materials is an optional upgrade to the Vault box. It allows storage of up to 250 of every type of common and rare crafting materials. Any surplus from the maximum of 250 must be kept as a separate stack on the item storage or in a character's inventory.

This upgrade is available by paying a fee of 50Gold (for each roleplaying character that wants access) to a Xunlai Agent. Once upgraded, it can be accessed via any Xunlai Agents. The materials storage will show up as a separate tab.

PvP characters cannot perform the upgrade. They will automatically gain access if any roleplaying character in that account buys an upgrade.

Note that if you have a trial account, you will not receive the materials storage tab.

[edit] Notes

  • One storage tab has 20 storage slots
  • Players gain one additional storage tab for every campaign or expansion on a player's account, but no more than 4 tabs: For example, a player with one campaign automatically has two storage windows (one by default, one for the campaign), a player with two campaigns gets two additional tabs in total (and has three), and a player with two campaigns and one expansion will have three additional tabs, for a total of four storage windows, but a player with all three campaigns and the expansion will also have four storage windows.
  • The materials storage upgrade (added with the 13th July 2006 game update) significantly reduced the need for mule characters, although they are not expected to become extinct anytime soon. It was originally made available only to accounts with access to Guild Wars Factions, but with the release of Guild Wars Nightfall and subsequent updates, all Xunlai Agents offer this upgrade.
  • As of the Fourth Anniversary Content Update on April 23, 2009 players can purchase up to four additional storage panes per Guild Wars account.

As shown in the first two images above, the promotional storage tab "moves forward" as new tabs are purchased. However, the items are bound to the physical location of their pane's tab and will not move to follow this icon.

Certain items cannot be added to the Vault box. It is not known if this is a bug.

Armor in storage will always appear to be for the gender of the current viewer — not for the gender of the character the equipment was customized for.

[edit] Trivia

  • Until April 5th 2007, there was only one storage tab available for the Vault box
  • There was a Guild Vault planned after the release of Factions but never implemented due to technical reasons
