[edit] Guild Wars - used game purchase and playability

Hi.

I just purchased a used copy of Guild Wars. I've been told that I may not be able to play the game because the access code may be a used one. I'm told I may have to buy a factory sealed copy anyway, (costing me more money, of course) since my local stores don't seem to carry Prophecies any longer (in anything other than Game of the Year edition).

How do I get online playing my used copy and access key? Could I "re-open" and existing account using this key, if I can get the original name and password? Is that against any rules Anet may have?

(Obviously I'm new to all of this. My expertise is with Diablo and Battle.net's rules and regs. They only require a unique Installation Key, but used games go online with no problems (or seem to). Guild Wars' rules on this issue sound somewhat different. I don't want to break any rules and be denied access because of it.)

Unlike diablo and battle.net, guild wars is an MM-online-RPG. that means, the program on your pc only contains a client to connect you with the server and the graphics. the game itself runs on the server, including data saves, such as where you characters are, what level they are and, more importantly, what you have achieved for your account. (that's why the only thing you buy is actually the registration key, since everyone can download the client for free if they want to. without the key they won't have access).
i'm not sure whether you can delete and recreate an account with one key. as i understand you, you bought an already used game, so the most important thing for you will be to change e-mail address and password first (if you can't create a new acc with that key). after that you can delete all characters. if you play PvE, there's little of the old account which might affect your new characters, especially looking at only prophecies. only in pvp you might notice achievements from before, such as unlocked skills and items. - Y0_ich_halt 12:35, 11 June 2008 (UTC)
Also account wide titles will be still be present on the account. However it also important to change your anet password and log on details, not just your guild wars stuff. As the anet account is the access area for control over all your installed anet games, thus changing the password on your game only means that the original owner could still go into the anet account and change the password back to whatever he wishes and thus deprive you of it. Also as a side note I think according to the EULA, people aren't allowed to sell used copies. Hello bexor, I'm not sure if you already know or not but ive been updating the mesmer masks,as can be seen here so as to get conformity across all of them. I've done most of them now, the only ones I'm missing are Vabbian, Asuran and elite Kurzick. I'm going to buy elite kurzick myself to screen cap it, however I noticed from the pics already there, that you seem to have the asuran and vabbian masks. Is their any chance I could lend them both for a couple of minutes at some point so I can screen cap them and upload the new images? I am aware that you already have pics up on those pages and that this is a bit of a cheeky request, as in essence I'm asking to lend your masks, so i can screen cap and replace your pics, So I'll understand if you would rather not. I hasten to add it's not that I think their is anything wrong with your images, it is only that I think conformity across all the images makes it easier to compare the masks. Hi Bexor! Im just writing here to say how much i like youre artwork. I admire artowkr more than most because i cant make artwork, and i escpecially liked your's. I hope it does come into the game somehow. I know some design a weapon finalists got their weapons in game in the Million edition.
