[edit] 'About me' stuff
I live in Sydney, and am primarily a man of leisure.
I tend to update my gaming PC more often than my wallet likes. Current specs:
Core i7 950 \ GigaByte EX58-UD3R \ 6GB PC3-15000 \ GTX 285
Asus Xonar DX \ Dual Samsung 215TW \ Vista 64 Home Premium
Where MMOs are concerned, I'm probably not as old-school as my age (mid-30's) would suggest. Guild Wars was the first game in the MMO genre that I played (and still play), which I got into not long after it was released. I've since played:
- EQ2 - One of the best subscription-based MMOs around, in my opinion, and despite SOE's penchant for blatant greed and total disregard for their customers, I still play it.
- EVE Online - Lovely universe, interesting mechanics, and the skill system means I can take breaks and not suspend progress. Currently inactive.
- WoW - It's a polished experience, but... argh! My eyes! It's so smurfy! Can't handle the art style.
- Lineage II - I tried, but couldn't really find anything about this game that I liked.
- LotRO - Beta tested. Lovely world, but something about it just didn't suck me in. Probably the character animations. Especially jump. No, sadly, I'm not kidding.
- Anarchy Online - Again with the lack of eye candy, times about a bazillion. Though it seems like a fun game, it also feels overall a little rough to me.
- Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning - Prior closed beta tester. Not the game for me. [Global Skill Cooldown is a pet peeve.]
- Age of Conan - Prior closed beta tester. Not the game for me.
- Rappelz - heh
- Runes Of Magic - ugh
- Alganon - Beta tested. WoW-lite with about 1/100th the polish, even up to release.
- City of Heroes/Villians - Fun game, but didn't keep me engaged for all that long. Feels very samey after a while.
- Darkfall - Terrible controls, ugly graphics, poor customer service... the list goes on and on with this one.
- Aion - Beta tested. A beautiful game with no soul. And lots of bots.
- Fallen Earth - Beta tested a little, but there was a known issue with my video card, which by the time they'd fixed it, I hadn't logged on in long enough that they'd canceled my beta spot. Judging from what I did see, I wouldn't waste your time with this one.
There may be others that I've forgotten (or blocked from my mind), but it's obvious to me looking at that list that a slick experience and nice looking game is important to me. Call me a snob... I certainly would. Achiever 46.67%, Explorer 60.00%, Killer 53.33%, Socializer 46.67%
Anyway, I contribute here occasionally, and to GuildWiki, and will more than likely contribute to the Guild Wars 2 Official Wiki, and am very excited about Guild Wars 2.
And that's about it for now. Bring on the userboxes.
