Gaming Background
I've been gaming since I was in diapers (Atari, anyone?). At the tender age of 3, I could hold my own against my dad in Space Invaders, Pong, and Pac Man. My dad is surely to blame for my passion for video games.
Like most gamers my (old) age, I started with consoles - Atari, Colecovision, Nintendo, Super Nintendo, Playstation...you name it, I probably had one. Around the time the Playstation was released, I nearly stopped gaming entirely due the usual teenage rebellion phase. Getting in trouble with my friends was much more fun than Tekken.
Years later, I played Grand Theft Auto 3 at a friend's apartment one day and became completely hooked. I was poor and couldn't afford an Xbox of my own, so I looked into getting some games for my computer. RTS games were appealing to me, so I tested my hand at Rome: Total War, Age of Empires 2, and Lord of the Rings: The Battle for Middle-earth (BFME). Being the rabid Tolkien fan I am, I became a complete BFME addict - joined a clan, played clanwars somewhat competitively, created maps for the game, and even took part in the creation of the game's balance patches.
Around the time BFME was growing stale, BFME2 was released and I became addicted all over again. By that time, I was an admin at a large RTS community fansite, and I ran my own site for EA Games' WorldBuilder map-making software. I left my clan due to some differences of opinion about the clan's policies, and joined some friends in their clan The Holy and the Damned [THAD]. We had some real good times together, but even BFME2 grew stale and some of them started playing Guild Wars. I was very hesitant to play an online RPG, but I bought Prophecies to see what all the fuss was about. The rest is history, so they say.
