The rabbit appears in the Prophecies and Factions campaigns, as well as in Eye of the North. It currently serves no purpose, showing up on the radar as an NPC. It therefore is not tamable by Rangers using Charm Animal at this point in time, as it is not considered to be an animal companion. It does mean that rabbits can still be healed or enchanted like any other NPC.
Rabbits have been confirmed to not be available as pets. This is due to the size constraints, and animation issues.
[edit] Clearing the rabbit hole
If you are planning on killing Nulfastu Earthbound, you don't want to charge in there unprepared. When you spot the white rabbit in Drakkar Lake and move close to him, he will run away. Follow him and he will lead you back into his warren, where four other white rabbits reside. Once you spend a few seconds down in the center of the warren, the rabbits will turn hostile. The rabbit that leads you into the warren will transform into Nulfastu Earthbound and 59 Vaettir will immediately spawn in a circular ring around the warren and up the path, which will mob your party and kill you. Curiosity will lead you into a death trap.
Here's how to clear the warren:
- Flag your hunting party at the start of the downward path.
- Send one hero down to the center of the warren where the rabbits are. Make sure this hero isn't vital to the survival of the party.
- Nulfastu will spawn, the rabbits will turn hostile, and the Vaettir will spawn, killing the hero you sent rather quickly.
- Now that the mob has spawned, you can safely pull them a few at a time.
- Eventually it will clear out enough that you can go down and finish off the rest. Be careful though, more Vaettir will pop up as you circle the bottom.

[edit] Trivia
- "Following the White Rabbit" could be a reference to Alice in Wonderland or the Matrix as in these stories the protagonist follows a white rabbit into trouble.
- The reason the luring rabbit transforms into Nulfastu Earthbound is because Nulfastu takes the form of a white rabbit to lure people into her den. This is seen on her monument in Sifhalla. This is a reference to Monty Python and the Holy Grail where the white rabbit is, in fact, a deadly monster.
- When Sif Shadowhunter says she has killed ten dozen wolves, threescore bear and one vicious rabbit, Nulfastu Earthbound is the rabbit she defeated. This is likely because in the quest Worthy Deeds (Done Dirt Cheap), the player must defeat three bosses that Sif has defeated to prove his or her worth to her, and Nulfastu is on the list.
- White rabbits have red eyes, and during their death animation their mouth opens long enough to reveal long fangs (using the /sit command while in White Rabbit Form allows this to be more easily observed). This, too, is likely a reference to Monty Python, or possibly the more obscure children's book Bunnicula.
