[edit] Acquisition
The Lucky and Unlucky title tracks can mostly be progressed at the same time, since positive outcomes progress your Lucky title, while negative outcomes progress your Unlucky title.
The primary means of advancing both title tracks involves participating in games of chance during special events (such as the Canthan New Year and Wintersday). The games at these events involve buying tickets and, based on certain odds, will result in each character involved winning or losing tickets. See the guide to luck titles for more in-depth details on both the games and an analysis of their odds.
Using lockpicks can progress both title tracks. A successfully retained lockpick gives 250 tickets won towards the Lucky title track. Failure to retain a lockpick instead gives 2.5 games of chance lost on the Unlucky title track for every 1% retain chance on that chest. Therefore, with the lowest possible retain rate of 10%, every broken lockpick will result in 25 games of chance lost (2.5*10=25) and this value will increase with the retain rate.
A Four-leaf Clover progresses the Lucky title track 4 tickets if it successfully removes 15% death penalty from your character.
[edit] Notes
- Statistically, it would take about 2,206
to win 2.5 million Festival Tickets (based on the Nine Rings game available when the Shing Jea Boardwalk is open).
- The Rings of Fortune game is cheaper than the Nine Rings game for maximizing the Unlucky title. For every 1 ticket purchased, you lose an average of 4.5 games. So to lose 500,000 games (and obtain rank 7 in the Unlucky title track), you'd need 111,111 tickets, which would cost 1667
.
- Lockpicks were updated to contribute to these title tracks from the April 26, 2007 update. Since this time these titles have had good synergy with the Treasure Hunter title track.
- A player would need to retain a lockpick 10,000 times to maximize the Lucky title track.
- Chests which require very cheap (50
) keys are a good way to work on this title as you have a high chance of successfully retaining each lockpick in normal mode. The disadvantage is that any synergy with the Treasure Hunter title track is lost since these chests are not "high-end" (i.e. those with keys costing more than 600
). Nevertheless, maxing this title using this method will cost approximately 4,000
.
- The number of lockpicks required to max the Unlucky title track depends on the type of chests opened. For the shortest time requirement, a player would need to open 8,000 chests with 50% retain rate, breaking 4000 lockpicks, to max this title.
