Guild Wars Wiki:Requests for user merge
From Guild Wars Wiki
This page is to request user merges for bureaucrats to carry out at their discretion.
User merging involves merging all contributions and logs from one account into another account, effectively changing their attribution. Page histories and log pages are updated to match the name of the new account. There is no limit on how many 'old' accounts can be merged into a 'new' account. Merging only has an effect on the wiki where it's carried out.
This does not delete the old user account, and does not transfer preference details (the old account remains usable). Also, the edit count in 'my preferences' for the old account does not exclude the newly moved contributions, and similarly the new account does not include them.
Please note that this can be a drastic action and cannot be reverted without moving the entire contribution and log list from one account to another. Be sure you understand the effects before requesting a merge.
To add a new request:
- Ensure the new account is registered (it doesn't matter if it already has contributions)
- Add the following to the top of the list below, replacing the indicated parts:
*{{user|<Name of old account>}} → {{user|<Name of new account>}}
:<Reason for requested merge>
:<Signature by old account>
:<Signature by new account>
If you want the same merge to be carried out on the Guild Wars 2 Wiki, please mention it.
It is recommended that old userpages and talk pages be redirected to their new counterparts, to ease navigation to users via old links (e.g. in signatures). Userpages can be collectively moved using the "move subpages" option in the move tab. If there is a high number of pages, a bot can carry out the page moving and deletion of remnant-redirects if requested in your reasoning; this will keep the move-log entries and edits out of recent changes.
[edit] Requests
- I use the latter on GW2W and its shorter, was already merged on GW2W (second after Pling merged his [:)

- As requested by User:Pling(I think) as username is too long.
- <old account signature to be put here later>

- Firstly, we'd need to find out if unregistered accounts can be merged into registered accounts. Secondly, we'd have to be sure that all the contributions for the IP have been made by you, which we can't be for definite. Both of these are making me hesitate to carry out the merge - even if unregistered → registered does work, the second is still cause for concern. WTB opinions for that. -- pling

- Unregistered to registered should work; on the concern, what about requiring IPs to sign twice, maybe one month after the first, to prove that the IP really is static. Of course that won't help against proxys but then it can be based on the contributions of the IP. poke | talk 13:08, 22 October 2009 (UTC)
- I'm not sure how consistently we'd be able to prove it, but in this case, the contribs are pretty clearly all Ariyen's. The first 2 contribs are manually signed as Ariyen, and later talk page edits are followed up quickly by edits from the account to change the signature. - Tanetris 16:10, 22 October 2009 (UTC)
- I can and am truthfully admitting that I have done those edits. As much as I could, I have tried to re-sign things as me, if possible, but some aren't that possible. --

- Sparky Sharkinu (talk • contribs • logs • block log) → Sharkinu (talk • contribs • logs • block log)
- It's shorter and it's the account I will use on GW2W. I want to move my pages myself, because I want to make some modofications in sub pages tree.

- Thanks a lot. Should I move my pages myself and not care about the associated RC spam, or should I poke poke to wikichu it? — Why

- Updated text above; if you would like to, I can easily do that. Do you want to keep redirects? poke | talk 19:25, 13 October 2009 (UTC)
- Oh yes please. Keeping redirects is OK, it will be useful for my main userpage and talk page as well as my templates, some people actually use them. Is moving my images possible too? I'll re-tag them myself for proper categorization in Category:User images. :D Also my suggestions can stay where they are, I need to move them to the feedback namespace anyway, or you can move them if that makes coding the bot operation easier. — Why
19:53, 13 October 2009 (UTC)
- Oh, I didn't read the bit about the "move subpages" option, I guess I can handle my userspace myself. Mind to move only my images? — Why
19:55, 13 October 2009 (UTC)
- User images, huh? I guess I have to write something more special for this after all :P I'll do it tomorrow. poke | talk 21:35, 13 October 2009 (UTC)
- Perhaps it'd be best if I moved them myself. My main concern was the RC spam moving the images will cause, but as I need to change the {{user image|Why Are We Fighting}} to {{user image|Why}} there will be RC spam anyway, so the merit of botting this action is limited, I think. Unless doing this with wikichu has some benefit I don't know of. You're the botmaster, not me :) — Why
