Benefits

[edit] Acquisition

Fight in guild battles. The Champion title track was made to reward highly ranked guilds in their GvG endeavors. Champion points are only earned by players when both guilds involved in a GvG battle have ratings greater than 1200.

In-game description: "You will earn the title <insert tier name> when you reach <insert number> victories in high-rated guild-versus-guild combat. To qualify, the guild ladder must not be frozen and a battle must be between two guilds that each possess a rating of 1200 or higher."

[edit] Prestige

When this title was first introduced, the only victories that were considered for this title were those between guilds that had a minimum rating of 1500. At that time, the only guilds meeting the rating requirement were those in the top fifteen or so of the entire guild ladder. Due to the stringent requirements, attaining even the first tier was deemed to be very prestigious when compared to even the higher-level tiers of the other PvP titles.

The rating requirement was reduced to 1200 in a later update, opening to the doors to players of lower-ranked guilds to start earning Champion victories. When the requirement lowered, the level of prestige naturally followed, to the extent that Champion tiers are now comparable to tiers in other PvP titles such as the Gladiator.

Late last year, or early this year, it became noticeable that players are manipulating the system by arranging and throwing matches to enable guilds to help raise each other's Champion victory count. This practice was deemed a violation of the EULA by ArenaNet. Despite a reduction of this exploit, even further damage to this title's prestige was already done.

[edit] Trivia

  • The prefix for each tier's title is the same as those for the Gladiator title track.
