Capping

Capping is a verb derived from "capture," generally referring to either making use of the Signet of Capture or to a tactic in Alliance Battles wherein each 12-man side splits into three groups of four (or sometimes into even smaller groups) in order to capture the maximum number of control points as quickly as possible. Because a control point gives 1 point every 7 seconds whereas a player can give (at absolute maximum) only 1 every 20 seconds, capturing points is generally viewed as the more effective method of winning games. The commonly accepted alternative to capping is "mobbing," a tactic in which as many players group together as possible, usually forming an 8-or-more-man group and attacking as many targets as possible in the hope to kill their opponents directly. Although it can be effective, this is a much less efficient method of capturing points, as only 4 people can contribute to the point's control meter at once, instead relying on the weight of kill points to gain a victory.

This term can also refer to the process of capturing such a control point.
