[edit] Walkthrough

On the first level, follow the compass northeast to a gate which will open for you. You will see the Shrine of the Raven Spirit ahead of you, but as you approach, a Destroyer Tremor will pop up in front of it, and two more Destroyers spawn from the northeast. After you defeat them, 2 more Destroyers will spawn to the west, then the southwest corner, then the southeast corner of the room. After defeating the last group, you gain a morale boost, and can receive Raven Blessing from the shrine or from Olaf.

Heading back south out of the room, you will see groups of Destroyers, each with a Destroyer Tremor and two other Destroyers. Aim for the Tremors first, interrupting if possible, and follow the path from one group of Destroyers to the next to find the portal to the next level.

On the second level, head straight north around the first group of Vaettirs, then west through the doorway. Destroyers will kill off any other groups of Vaettirs you come by when you go near them, but you can head north then west again to avoid them and reach the portal to the third level. It is easily possible to avoid contact with any foes on this level.

On the third level, hug the wall to the right and head straight to the group on that side. As soon as you aggro them, the group from the left will move to the middle of the room where a hidden Destroyer Tremor waits, so be careful. Proceed south slowly. There is another hidden Destroyer Tremor just ahead of the next group of Destroyers. After defeating them, head into the southwest room. You will see the Asura Gate ahead of you, but there are a number of Destroyers and 2 hidden Destroyer Tremors in between, one about halfway into the room and the other just in front of the gate.

After clearing the room, head to the gate. Once you kill the Tremor in front of it, Destroyers will start spawning from the gate, one at a time. You can try to kill the Asura Gate while holding off the Destroyers, or the slower but much easier method is to ignore the gate and kill each Destroyer as it spawns. You should have plenty of time to kill one before the next shows up. After about the 10th Destroyer, they'll stop spawning and you can kill the Asura Gate at your leisure. Or you can completely ignore the mobs that spawn and just attack the gate, it goes down pretty fast and you should get it without dying. Alternatively, if you are having trouble with the destroyers that spawn in the gate, you can try to pull them right. You can run back to the entrance of the room and they should stay there. Then simply hug the wall and go to the gate and destroy it.

[edit] Olaf Olafson

So, are you ready to hunt down these Destroyers? I hope they live up to their viscous reputation!
Yes Accept: "Let me at them! (Sent into the mission)"
No Decline: "I'm scared."

[edit] A Gate Too Far

On reaching the Shrine of the Raven Spirit.

Olaf Olafson: The Shrine of the Raven Spirit imbues you with its blessing. This magic will help you in your hunt. Invoke the power, and Raven shall protect you!
Olaf Olafson: Watch your step! That Destroyer Tremor is shaking the place apart.
<Party leader>: Destroyers are coming out of the ground! Raven protect us all!

Defeating the Destroyers attacking the shrine.

without Ogden or Vekk:

Olaf Olafson: By the great north wind, that was a battle. Thank you for your help. Raven's shrine is now secure
<Party leader>: Our pleasure. Now do you see? These Destroyers are no idle threat.
Olaf Olafson: They fight with the strength of ten bears! They might just be worthy opponents of a Norn.
<Party leader>: We need to find that Asura Gate. Which way?
Olaf Olafson: You have the patience of a badger, small one. The object you call a "gate" is in the heart of the temple. Follow the stench of these "Destroyers" to it.

with Ogden:

Olaf Olafson: By the great north wind, that was a battle. Thank you for your help. Raven's shrine is now secure
Ogden Stonehealer: Our pleasure. Now do you see? These Destroyers threaten all of us.

Vekk: Enough idle chatter! We need to find the gate, posthaste. If you are finished slapping each other on your furry backs, perhaps someone could point me in the right direction.

Finding the Asura Gate.

without Ogden or Vekk:

<Party leader>: There it is. The gate! And it's overrun by Destroyers!
<Party leader>: We need to wreck that gate. We saw Vekk do this at Boreal Station.
<Party leader>: Keep those Destroyers off us. We'll shatter this gate in no time.

with Ogden:

Ogden Stonehealer: At last. The gate! And, as I suspected, it's overrun with Destroyers!
<Party leader>: We need to wreck that gate. We saw Vekk do this at Boreal Station.
<Party leader>: Keep those Destroyers off us. We'll shatter this gate in no time.

with Vekk:

Vekk: Interesting. We actually meandered our way to the gate!
<Party leader>: By the gods, it's overrun by Destroyers!
Vekk: You have an amazing command of the obvious. We can dismantle the gate, but it'll take time. I suggest you distract those Destroyers. Perhaps you could bleed on them.

with Ogden and Vekk:

Vekk: Interesting. We actually meandered our way to the gate!
Ogden Stonehealer: And, as I feared, it's overrun by Destroyers!
Vekk: You have an amazing command of the obvious. We can dismantle the gate, but it'll take time. I suggest you distract those Destroyers. Perhaps you could bleed on them.

[edit] Reward Dialogue

Olaf Olafson
"More await in the cave! Let´s take the fight to them. My daughter will stand guard here. The rest of you should speak to me when you are ready to enter the shrine. These "Destroyers" had better be worth the trouble."

[edit] Notes

  • This mission-like quest uses the same maps as Raven's Point, but with different spawns.
  • Upon loading, this area is referred to as a dungeon.
  • You will lose the blessing at the transition between levels. Talk to Olaf to receive it again.
  • Olaf and both the Norn guards will resurrect themselves if they die.
  • It is not necessary to rush the gate at the end of the trip; more Destroyers will spawn from it but at a very slow rate.
  • The gate itself appears as an enemy for purposes of targeting. You destroy it by "killing" it (note that it is not a fleshy foe, but it can be knocked down). You cannot go through it.
  • Destroying the gate will take you to the cutscene Olaf and Ogden, and then to Olafstead.
  • This quest (and all primary repeatable Eye of the North quests) may also be obtained from the Scrying Pool in the Hall of Monuments after completing it once.
  • The Destroyers are hostile to the other monsters in this mission, such as Chromatic Drakes and Shattered Elementals.
  • It is possible to complete the quest without ever getting the Raven Blessing. Depending on your team configuration, this may in fact be ideal.
  • On the second level, you can avoid fighting any mobs by moving carefully.
  • Doing this quest before finishing Vision of the Raven Spirit will not count for completing it.
  • Pain Inverter is ideal to cast on the Tremors, if you do not have some other means to shut them down.
  • Destroyers are vulnerable to cold damage. Winter, which is cast by Icy Stalagmites in the first area, is great to combine with Greater Conflagration to turn all physical damage into to cold damage.
  • When repeating this for your Hero's Handbook Olaf Olafson in Olafstead will return you inside the mission.
Bug Bug.
If you do not accept the blessing on the second floor, Destroyers may not replace the default mobs.
Bug Bug.
Sometimes on the third floor, the Destroyers don't spawn until you reach the cave room with the Asura Gate in it.
Bug Bug.
If all your party gets killed and you manage to get to the room where the Asura Gate is, if you have Vekk and/or Ogden in your party they will rebirth where they died, this will happen in the beggining of the dialogue that takes place when you reach the Asura Gate room.

[edit] Trivia

  • The name references the 1977 movie "A Bridge Too Far"
  • The quote of Vekk when advancing to the Gate ("Perhaps you could bleed on them") refers to the Black Knight in Monty Python's "The Holy Grail".
