Target
From Guild Wars Wiki
Target, as a noun, refers to the creature, object, bundle or item another creature has selected and will be the primary recipient of any attack or skill they use. In the interface, this is diplayed as a name bar, default position center top, which also displayed additional info if the target is a creature.
As a verb, it refers to the act of selecting such a target.

How to target
Foes, allies, animals, corpses, and others may be targeted in the following ways:
- A single, left-button mouse click on the target.
- One of the following default hotkeys:
- F - Self
- C - Closest foe
- V - Closest NPC (henchmen/ heroes included)
- T - Select a target called by someone else (see Called Targets, below)
- ] or TAB - Next foe
- [ or SHIFT+TAB - Previous foe
Hint: Since all skills that can target you will have you as default target, F can be linked to 'Clear Target' to both targeting yourself and losing targets.
Auto-target/attack
When not targeting anything, a foe that is within your field of view and within a certain distance from your character will be highlighted in your compass. Pressing the space bar, or activating a skill in your skill bar while that foe is highlighted will target and attack that foe. In situations where there are more than one foe within your field of view, the foe that is closest to the center of your screen will be highlighted for you to target.
Also, activating a skill that targets a foe, without any foes targeted, will target the foe nearest your character.
Called targets
A target called out by a party member is indicated by expanding red-dot rings around the target's minimap marker, a ringing sound, and text displayed in the Team Chat. Also the icon at right, displaying crosshairs and flashing the letter T, will appear in the Party Members window next to the name of the party member who called the target. Called Targets may be announced to a party in a number of ways.
How to call a target
Use one of the following methods to both Call and Attack a target. Doing so will cause your target to be marked in the manner mentioned above, and post text in the team Chat stating, I am attacking (target x)! or I am using (skill x) on (target y)!.
- Hold CTRL and double-click your intended target.
- Select a target using a hotkey (C, T, ], et-cetera) mentioned above, then:
- Hold CTRL and press the spacebar.
- Hold CTRL and click a skill in your skillbar.
Use one of the following methods to only Call a target, without attacking. Doing so will cause your target to be marked in the manner mentioned above, and post text in the team Chat stating, I am targeting (target x)!.
- Hold SHIFT+CTRL and double click your intended target.
- Select a target using a hotkey (C, T, ], et-cetera) mentioned above, then:
- Hold SHIFT+CTRL and press the spacebar.
- Hold SHIFT+CTRL and click a skill in your skillbar.
How to attack an already called target
Once a target is called, pressing the T key immediately selects the same target. Then press the spacebar or click a skill in your skillbar to attack or use a skill on the called target.
Alternately, after pressing the T key, hold the CTRL button while pressing the spacebar or clicking a skill in your skill bar to announce that you are attacking the same called target. Doing so will post I am attacking (target x)! or I am using (skill x) on (target y)! in Team Chat.
Customization
All targeting hotkeys can be freely configured via the Controls tab in the options menu.
